HVAC Diagnostic Service
No heating or cooling? Start with a proper diagnosis.
When your equipment stops working or something does not seem right, Endeavor evaluates the system, identifies the source of the immediate concern and explains the available next steps. Repair work is only completed after the findings and pricing have been reviewed with you.
Clear Findings · Repair Options · No Work Without Approval
When to Schedule
Diagnostic service is for active problems and abnormal operation.
Maintenance is intended for operating equipment receiving routine preventive service. Diagnostic service is appropriate when the equipment has failed, is shutting down or is not performing as expected.
Heating and cooling problems
- The furnace, heat pump or air conditioner will not start
- The system runs but does not properly heat or cool
- Equipment starts and stops repeatedly
- The thermostat is blank, unresponsive or displaying a fault
- The indoor or outdoor equipment is frozen
Abnormal equipment behavior
- Unusual sounds, vibration or electrical odors
- Water leaking around the furnace or air handler
- Weak, inconsistent or missing airflow
- Breakers, fuses or safety controls repeatedly trip
- The system is displaying an active error code
Our Process
A methodical process from the reported symptom to the next step.
Review the Concern
We discuss the symptoms, when the problem began and any recent repairs, changes or unusual equipment behavior.
Reproduce the Problem
The equipment is operated when possible to observe the failure, fault sequence or abnormal performance directly.
Test the System
Applicable controls, electrical components, safeties, airflow and equipment operation are evaluated.
Identify the Cause
Findings are traced to the component, condition or system issue responsible for the reported problem.
Review the Options
Repair options, equipment condition and any additional testing needs are explained before work continues.
Authorize the Work
Repairs and parts are quoted separately and completed only after customer authorization.
What We Evaluate
Diagnostic testing is tailored to the reported problem.
Not every test is necessary or possible for every system. The evaluation is based on the equipment type, operating condition, symptoms and accessibility.
Thermostat & Controls
Thermostat commands, control voltage, system communication and operating sequence.
Electrical Components
Power supply, wiring, fuses, capacitors, contactors, motors and other applicable electrical components.
Safety Controls
Applicable limits, pressure switches, rollout controls, float switches and equipment safeties.
Airflow
Filters, blower operation, visible restrictions, temperature performance and static pressure when appropriate.
Heating Operation
Ignition, combustion sequence, burners, heat production and applicable furnace or heat-pump operation.
Cooling Operation
Compressor, outdoor fan, indoor airflow, temperature performance and refrigerant-system indicators when appropriate.
What the diagnostic service includes
The diagnostic service covers evaluation of the reported equipment problem, reasonable testing required to identify the immediate cause and an explanation of the findings.
When the issue can be identified during the initial evaluation, available repair options and pricing are provided.
If the system has multiple unrelated problems, an intermittent failure or a condition requiring extended testing, additional diagnostic work may be recommended.
What if the system only needs maintenance?
When the reported concern is determined to be routine maintenance rather than an equipment failure, the visit can be adjusted to the applicable maintenance service. You will not be charged both a standard diagnostic and full maintenance price for the same converted visit.
Warranty Service
Manufacturer warranty coverage varies.
Manufacturer equipment warranties commonly cover eligible replacement parts but may not cover diagnostic service, labor, refrigerant, shipping, freight or administrative costs.
Warranty eligibility depends on the manufacturer, registration, installation date, equipment ownership, maintenance history and the cause of failure.
Before warranty work begins, Endeavor will review the available coverage and explain any customer responsibility associated with the repair.
Common Questions
HVAC diagnostic service questions.
Is the repair included in the $119 diagnostic service?
No. The diagnostic service covers evaluation of the reported problem and identification of the immediate cause. Repair labor, replacement parts and materials are quoted separately.
Will you complete the repair during the same appointment?
Many common repairs can be completed during the initial appointment when the correct part is available and the work is authorized. Repairs requiring special-order parts or additional testing may require a return appointment.
What happens if the first repair does not solve every problem?
Some systems have multiple failures or one failed component that prevents additional testing until it is repaired. When another unrelated issue becomes apparent afterward, additional diagnostic work may be required.
Is refrigerant leak detection included?
Initial system evaluation may identify indicators of low refrigerant or a possible leak. Extended electronic detection, nitrogen pressure testing, UV dye testing and zone isolation are separate services when required.
Can you diagnose equipment installed by another company?
Yes. Endeavor services and diagnoses residential HVAC equipment installed by other contractors, subject to equipment access, parts availability and system condition.
Do you provide after-hours service?
After-hours diagnostic service may be available for $189. Availability is not guaranteed and must be arranged directly based on the service area, schedule and nature of the request.
What information should I provide before the appointment?
Please provide the property address, contact information, equipment type, reported symptoms and any known error codes. Photos of the thermostat and equipment can also help prepare for the visit.
